Brazil Exchange October 2015

Miss Stanbridge and Miss Roberts

After hosting a group of Brazilian Head Teachers earlier this year Ms Norman organised an exchange which was funded by the British Council for us to go to Brazil. We visited an area in Brazil called Rio Pardo which is situated in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in the South of the country. It was great to experience life in Brazil as it was so different to how we imagined it to be. We found the food and drink to be very different to England, particularly ‘Chimarrão’ and ‘Fejada’ which are typical for that region of Brazil.

We visited lots of schools including Nursery schools, Secondary schools, Private schools and Night schools. We were given the opportunity to observe teaching and learning of all ages from young children to adults and we saw a range of subjects being taught including Portuguese, English, Geography, Art, Maths, PE and more. We were also given the opportunity to teach the Brazillian students which was a fantastic opportunity for us as it tested our teaching skills and provided us with an invaluable experience which we will never forget.

We then hosted two Brazillian teachers, Clarice Bastos Soares and Reni Heiderich, in Nottingham for a week. It was a pleasure to share our way of life in Nottingham and how we teach at Welbeck. They really enjoyed their experience and hope to use some of the teaching skills in Brazil.

We are very grateful to have been given this opportunity as it has shown us different values and ways of life which we hope to share with the children here at Welbeck.
