Contemporary issues
\n<\/b><\/u>At Welbeck, we develop\u00a0 pupils\u2019 awareness and\u00a0 understanding of local and global issues that affect them through a wide variety of learning opportunities and media forms. Pupils discuss and reflect on issues, enabling them to develop their empathy and tolerance, and decide how best they want to present this \u2013 for example through stop motion videos and creative arts week galleries (click here)<\/b><\/u>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Schools of Sanctuary<\/b><\/u>
\n<\/b><\/u>Welbeck is a supporting organisation of Schools of Sanctuary (click here)<\/a>.<\/b><\/u>\u00a0 <\/b>We actively develop our pupils\u2019 empathy and tolerance for people of different cultures and beliefs, many who have come to Nottingham seeking asylum and refuge. Creative Arts Week and International Refugee Week are just a few of the celebrations our pupils engage in.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Global awareness <\/b><\/u>
\n<\/b><\/u>Welbeck provides rich opportunities to celebrate\u00a0 many international days that happen across the world. World Earth Day, World Kindness Day and International Refugee Week are just a few of the celebrations our pupils engage in, developing empathy and tolerance for people and countries of different cultures and beliefs.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Community and Sustainability<\/b><\/u>
\n<\/b><\/u>Alongside developing pupil awareness of global diversity, we develop a deep appreciation and pride for\u00a0 our local community here in the Meadows. We work closely with local and voluntary groups such as Green Meadows and local business partners to support the delivery of our curriculum.\u00a0 Our pupils are active in the community, supporting and leading on local environment matters through our eco-clubs, litter picking and community projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

At <\/b>Welbeck we <\/b>support <\/b>our pupils in their <\/b>journey to being <\/b>healthy, happy and safe young people by teaching the importance of<\/b> physical and mental health. This involves teaching\u00a0 a wide variety of factors from food choices, physical activity and balanced lifestyles, to drugs and alcohol education, first aid, sleep and dental health<\/b>.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

PE Specialist provision<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

At Welbeck, we have a specialist PE lead who works across the whole school, leading on PE lessons, lunchtime and after school extra curricular clubs and providing targeted support to pupils as well as high quality CPD for staff. Termly assemblies are held to celebrate pupil successes and progress in participation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Forest School, Allotments and our gardener<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

At Welbeck, we take pride in growing fresh vegetables and fruit. Pupils are taught from Nursery and Reception age how to sow and harvest crops from our allotments and planters by our gardener and teachers, as well as how to name and recognize each plants. Through DT lessons and clubs,\u00a0 pupils are taught how to cook and enjoy eating this fresh produce (click here). <\/b><\/u><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Parental workshops<\/b><\/p>\n

Parental workshops are run to support parents in how they care for their children\u2019s health. Workshops on eye care, oral care and sleep build on what children have been taught by external providers\u00a0 such as Specsavers.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Drugs and Alcohol<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Age appropriate and bespoke workshops are delivered by teachers on the impacts of vaping drugs and alcohol (UPKS2) and the effects that everyday substances (caffeine, energy drinks) have on developing bodies.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Clubs for Healthy attitudes<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

At Welbeck, every pupil participates in an extra-curricular club either during or after the school day. Pupils have the opportunity to participate in \u2018Kilometre Club\u2019 before the school day starts, ensuring a healthy start to their day. Staff sit with pupils daily during lunchtimes, encouraging them to eat healthy, balanced meals and develop positive habits.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

At Welbeck, we promote our pupils to be kind, tolerant and empathetic. The foundation of this is the strength of the relationships staff build with pupils and the sense of belonging we give every pupil, where similarities and differences of people of different ethnic, cultural and faith backgrounds are celebrated and cherished. <\/b><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

School Values<\/b><\/p>\n

Our character curriculum and school values underpin everything we want to see realized in each pupil as they grow\u2013 confidence, resilience, respect, enjoyment, independence, responsibility and excellence. Staff members explain, demonstrate and model the highest expectations of these values through role-play opportunities, PSHE lessons and assemblies.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Relationships<\/b><\/p>\n

Our pupils learn how to identify the characteristics of\u00a0 healthy relationships, the qualities of good friendships and\u00a0 the skills needed to make friendships work. This understanding and skills are developed using structured PSHE lessons, assemblies and a wide variety of strategies such as circle-time, role-play and reflection.\u00a0 Every year we celebrate Anti-bullying week across our whole school (click here). <\/b><\/u><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Being safe<\/b><\/p>\n

To succeed in life and fulfil their potential, pupils must feel safe. We develop their understanding of everyday safety through water safety assemblies, road safety workshops and topic and PSHE lessons. This is complemented with visits to fire stations, police stations and the Bikeability programme in UPKS2.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Online safety<\/b><\/p>\n

In an ever-changing online world, we teach our pupils how to be safe online, through e-Safety assemblies and workshops lead by our specialist IT lead. Our pupils are aware of modern online risks, learning skills in how to identify truthful content and safely navigate online platforms. Parental workshops are run to support parents with online safety outside of school.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Our school motto is \u2018Never settle for less than your best\u2019. At Welbeck, we strive to ensure every pupil develops the characteristics and values that will help <\/b>\u00a0them to fully realise their potential throughout their life. <\/b>T<\/b>his is done by developing close relationships with every pupil, knowing their interests\u00a0 and supporting them <\/b>through a<\/b> highly enriched curriculum. <\/b><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Gifted and Talented<\/b><\/p>\n

Every single pupil at Welbeck is on our Gifted and Talented register. Pupil talents range from academic to sports to hobbies. Staff develop these talents through in-school and after-school extra-curricular provision, and pupils representing our school in their given talent. Our annual Talent Show <\/b>is a highlight of the year.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Celebrating Achievement<\/b><\/p>\n

Feeling a sense of achievement and receiving recognition for hard work and perseverance are key to developing a pupil\u2019s confidence, resilience and a life-long love of learning. Our pupils\u2019 achievements are recognised through our weekly achievement assemblies and parent invited \u2018End of Term\u2019 awards.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Role Models<\/b><\/p>\n

At Welbeck, our pupils are surrounded by positive female and male role models from their own lives, community and wider world.\u00a0 Every assembly begins with a discussion on a chosen role model, and themes in Rights Respecting, Black history Month, and International Women\u2019s week to name just a few, showcase positive role models. Year 6 pupils take on playground roles and responsibilities for younger pupils, and they enjoy visits from past pupils who speak about secondary school.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Outside partnerships place a key role in our outstanding provision at Welbeck.
